Ford today announced its second wave of water well construction for high-priority

As part of Ford Conservation and Environmental Grants Program, Ford and dealer partner, RMA Cambodia, are investing USD12,500 to build a series of water wells in the Cambodian provinces of Takeo and Kampong Speu

Thirteen wells – eight in Takeo and five in Kampong Speu – will supply nearly 1000 water-deprived families with clean, potable water

Current wave of construction is part of a nationwide program of wells for which Ford and RMA have pledged a total of USD70,000

PHNM PENH, Cambodia, May 9, 2013 – Ford today announced its second wave of water well construction for high-priority rural communities lacking access to clean water in the Cambodian provinces of Takeo and Kampong Speu. Together Ford and dealer partner, RMA Cambodia, are investing USD12,500 to build a series of thirteen new water wells in seven villages across the two southern provinces.

The new construction on which Ford today breaks ground is funded through Ford Motor Company’s internationally recognized 2013 Conservation and Environmental Grants Program in Cambodia.

The Takeo province cites nearly 800 families whose water supplies are both unsafe and not meeting their daily volume demands. Meanwhile the province of Kampong Speu, surrounding the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, has more than 200 families who, during the dry season, have no access to potable water whatsoever.

“Ford sees this as both an environmental and a humanitarian undertaking, and it tops our companies’ list of priorities for Cambodia in 2013, said DJ Simpson, district manager, South East Asia, Ford Export & Growth.

“After careful surveying of water needs across the country, we and RMA identified seven high-priority rural communities in these provinces who suffer from little to no access to water, and we’re going to do what we can to change this,” he said.

Once constructed, the 13 water wells – eight in Takeo and five in Kampong Speu – will supply the nearly 1000 families with the water they need to quench their thirst, to water their crops and to build healthier, happier lives.

“We are additionally happy to be able to announce that by the end of 2013, we will construct even more new wells in the provinces of Kampong Chhang and Pursat in phase three of our nationwide clean-water well program,” said Seng Voeung, RMA General Manager for Ford, RMA Cambodia.

Ford and RMA have pledged a total of USD70,000 for water well construction across Cambodia for its 2012-2013 grants program, announced in November 2012 in Siem Reap by Elena A. Ford, Vice President, Global Dealer and Consumer Experience, and great-great granddaughter of Ford Motor Company founder, Henry Ford.

Ford Conservation and Environmental Grants

Ford Motor Company’s Conservation and Environmental Grants program has become an annual event in Asia Pacific. Cambodia was the first country in South East Asia to receive a Ford environmental grant and has been a yearly grant recipient for the last 10 years.

Since launching the global grants programme, Ford has awarded more than US$2 million in grants to hundreds of environmental projects in Asia Pacific, the Caribbean, Central America, the Middle East and Puerto Rico.

In Asia Pacific alone, Ford has played a pivotal role in advancing more than 60 environmental initiatives.

“This program is one of the many ways Ford goes further to preserve the environment and improve its communities’ lives,” said David Westerman, Regional Manager, Asia Pacific, Ford Export & Growth Operations, “Environmental conservation, protection and education are integral to what we do, both as product innovators and members of the communities we do business in.”

Ford Motor Company today announced the launch of the all-new Ford Escape

Ford’s newest sport utility vehicle (SUV) arrives this May, bringing clever technologies and features designed to make life easier with fuel economy projected to top any vehicle of its kind on the market

Versatile vehicle features new hands-free technology – including liftgate with motion-sensing technology similar to video games’ and upgraded MyFord Touch® system that makes connecting with digital devices on the go even easier

The all-new Escape offers three engines, all of which provide efficiency without sacrificing power

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia, May 08, 2013 – Ford Motor Company today announced the launch of the all-new Ford Escape in Cambodia. Ford is raising the bar even higher with the all-new model that includes 11 new exclusive features and fuel economy projected to top any vehicle of its kind on the market today.

“We call our all-new Ford Escape the ‘smarter utility vehicle’ because it offers the strengths that customers today really value – fuel economy, versatility and new technology that makes driving and living with the vehicle easier and more fun – all wrapped in a sleek, more modern design,” said DJ Simpson, district manager, South East Asia, Ford Export & Growth Operations. “Ford understands that more people every year are looking at vehicles like Escape, and we want to give them even more reasons to buy.”

“Escape is one of Ford’s best-selling utility vehicles, and the Ford team has worked hard to make sure we deliver even more of what small SUV owners really want,” Simpson said.

In addition to more cargo volume behind the first and second rows than the current vehicle, the new Escape delivers:

Clever technologies that make Escape even more versatile, including an available hands-free power liftgate that allows quick and easy access to cargo with the kick of a foot

Projected best fuel economy of any compact SUV Driving dynamics that make the drive experience more engaging on-road and a new Ford Intelligent 4WD System that provides even better traction off-road

Sleek new design, with better interior materials and more finishing touches

Escape technology makes life better

An array of clever technologies adds to the new Escape’s versatility, helping make life easier for its owners. Key features include:

An available hands-free power liftgate brings new technology to the market and is enabled by motion technology used in today’s video game systems. A gentle kicking motion under the center of the rear bumper activates, unlocks and raises the liftgate when the driver has the Escape key fob. This allows quick and easy access to the cargo area without needing to set down packages or dig out keys. The same process closes the hatch

YNC® with MyFord Touch® offers multiple ways for customers to manage and control information through voice commands, menus accessed through controls on the steering wheel, touch screens, buttons or knobs. Upgraded system includes new look, making phone, navigation, entertainment and climate controls even easier to use

Parallel parking the Escape is virtually stress-free with active park assist. With the press of a button, the system detects an available parallel parking space and automatically steers the vehicle into the space. Drivers control only the gas and brake pedals

Maneuvering parking lots and traveling open roadways becomes even safer and less stressful with Escape’s sensor-based BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with cross-traffic alert. BLIS sounds an alert when a vehicle is detected entering a blind spot. Cross-traffic alert warns if traffic is detected approaching from the sides, such as when Escape is leaving a parking space in reverse

The all-new Ford Escape is the first Ford SUV to combine class-exclusive technology to automatically slow the vehicle when it’s cornering too fast (Curve Control) or help accelerate through a turn (Torque Vectoring Control); a new Intelligent 4WD System helps deliver outstanding handling on pristine pavement and in adverse conditions as well, along with excellent traction off-road

Spirited performance with outstanding fuel economy

Ford combines robust performance with great fuel economy in three engine options offered in the Escape: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder option and, making EcoBoost’s Cambodian debut, the 2.0-liter and 1.6 liter EcoBoost variants.

Both new EcoBoost engines combine EcoBoost’s core technologies of direct fuel injection and turbocharging and add twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) to deliver even better miles per gallon and save customers money on fuel. The 2.0-liter offers 240 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque, while the 1.6-liter provides 178 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque.

In Escape, EcoBoost engines are mated to a specially calibrated, six-speed SelectShift Automatic® transmissions, which is standard and allow drivers who want more hands-on experiences to manually control gear selection from a switch on the left-hand side of the shifter.

The gearbox features a new torque converter for improved driving feel, silky smooth shifts and even better fuel economy. Engineers also installed revised gear ratios for a balanced driving feel in all situations.

Also aiding fuel economy is Escape’s sleeker design. The new model is nearly 10 percent more aerodynamic than the outgoing model.

Plus, the new Escape’s active grille shutter system, which is on all models with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost and 2.5-liter four-cylinder engines, reduces wind resistance. Grille slats stay open when extra engine cooling air is required, such as low-speed stop-and-go driving. When cruising on the highway at steady speeds, the grille slats automatically close to improve aerodynamics and fuel efficiency.

Versatility and capability come standard

Stowing and towing are even easier in the new five-passenger Escape, thanks to a low liftover height of 27 inches, more innovations and cargo volume that surpasses the outgoing Escape – with 68.1 cubic feet of space behind the first row and 34.3 cubic feet behind the second row.

The new Escape’s rear seats have been designed to fold flat easily. With the touch of a button, the head restraint folds down and with the lift of a handle on the seat, the seatback folds and dives as the seat folds flat and clicks into position.

Escape also features an available two-position load floor, which can be configured to allow the customer to choose among maximum luggage volume or flat load floor.

When properly equipped, the all-new Escape maintains a trailer tow rating of 3,500 pounds with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine.

Engaging driving performance through seamless system

Using advanced software and sensors, the new Intelligent 4WD System analyzes data from 25 external signals, including wheel speed, accelerator pedal position and steering wheel angle, assessing road conditions and driver input 20 times faster than the blink of an eye.

The system uses all the sensor inputs to turn the vehicle in the direction the driver wants it to go. Intelligent 4WD builds on the pre-emptive actions by adding and subtracting torque as needed through an electromagnetic clutch.

“This all-new Ford model opens a new chapter in the world of SUVs,” Simpson said. “By being smarter, this utility vehicle will help customers around the globe find better, easier ways to connect with technology, maximize fuel efficiency and find the versatility and capability they need and want.”

Ford becomes first global automaker to offer complete automotive solutions in Myanmar – to open full-service showroom and service center facility in Yangon with exclusive dealer partner, Capital Automotive Ltd.

Capital Automotive Ltd., is a subsidiary of leading Myanmar conglomerate, Capital Diamond Star Group

Internationally recognized Ford Conservation and Environmental Grants program announced for Myanmar market

YANGON, Myanmar, April 30, 2013 – Ford Motor Company today officially announced its entry into the rapidly opening Myanmar market through an exclusive agreement and partnership with Capital Automotive Ltd., a subsidiary of leading Myanmar conglomerate, Capital Diamond Star Group.

By the end of the year, Ford plans to offer Myanmar customers a full showroom of global cars and trucks, representing all vehicle segments. The vehicles will be sourced and imported from Ford’s global production facilities, including North America and Thailand.

“We see tremendous potential and opportunity for Ford in Myanmar, and we’re looking forward to serving customers in this exciting market,” said David Westerman, regional manager, Asia Pacific, Ford Export & Growth Operations. “We’re also committed to making meaningful contributions and investments that will support the country’s ongoing economic and social development.”

Through its landmark deal with Capital Automotive, Ford will become the first global automaker to offer complete automotive solutions in Myanmar.

Ford’s first dealership facility is nearing completion in Yangon – the country’s commercial center and most populous city – and will offer an integrated sales, service and spare parts solution. Both the facility’s design and operations are fully aligned to Ford’s global standards.

“We could not have found a better long-term partner than Ford, and we are looking forward to introducing world-class Ford vehicles and services to our developing market,” said Ko Ko Gyi, owner and managing director of Capital Diamond Star Group.

Ford and Capital Automotive plan to expand with facilities in other markets across the country as business grows.

“With our exclusive partner, Capital Automotive, we are well-positioned to fully realize the huge potential of this market over the long-term,” added Westerman.

ASEAN Opportunity

Ford’s entry into Myanmar will help support its overall growth strategy for the ASEAN region, which represents a combined population of 600 million.

“Our entry into Myanmar is the latest step in Ford’s aggressive expansion in Asia Pacific, and will help us to more fully realize the opportunity within the ASEAN region,” said Matt Bradley, president, Ford ASEAN.

Ford’s starting lineup in Myanmar

Myanmar benefits from a strategic location between India and China, and a shared border with Thailand, Ford’s operations hub for the ASEAN region. This provides a variety of vehicle supply and logistics options from adjacent Thailand, as well as importing U.S.-sourced cars and trucks directly into Myanmar.

The iconic Ford F-Series pickup truck and class-defining all-new Ford Ranger will be among the first models to arrive in Myanmar.

“We’re committed to bringing the best of our global Ford lineup to Myanmar – world-class vehicles that Myanmar customers will want and value,” said Westerman.

Establishing an industry

In addition to the marketing and sales of its vehicles in Myanmar, Ford is committed to an enduring presence and ongoing investment in the market.

This will include providing opportunities for extensive, hands-on, skilled labor training to employees. Through this venture, Ford already is bringing in world-class training resources and technical experts to help educate the technicians, sales and service personnel that the company has employed.

“Part of Ford’s core values as a company is to invest in the places where we do business – to invest in people, in their careers and in the local communities,” explained Westerman. “It’s both an honor and our responsibility to train and develop a skilled workforce, and quite literally, to help shape the future of Myanmar’s automotive market.”

Ford Conservation and Environmental Grants in Myanmar

Ford also announced that it will bring its internationally-recognized Conservation and Environmental Grants program to Myanmar in 2013. This effort has become an annual event in select markets around the world.

Through the program, Ford plays a pivotal role in advancing hundreds of environmental initiatives in the region, from protecting wildlife and preventing forest fires, to funding cultural heritage projects and replenishing resources in rural communities.

In Cambodia, for example, Ford recently helped to launch an aggressive multi-year clean water initiative to bring fresh water to thousands of individuals living in rural villages across the nation.

When Ford Motor Company and its partners announce an open call for grant proposals in Myanmar later this year, all individuals, communities, non-profit groups and institutions that have projects in the areas of environmental preservation, environmental education or conservation engineering will be eligible to apply for funding.

By providing necessary funding and visibility, Ford hopes to encourage local, grassroots efforts that will serve as catalysts for change across Myanmar and across the globe.

Funding amounts and details for the program in Myanmar will be confirmed when the program is officially announced later this year.
