The operation will be managed under the RMA Contract Services Division.

Setting up such a project in a remote and troubled location is a complicated challenge and RMA applies all the logistics, operating skills, experience, and dedication to provide every essential service needed for total, reliable fleet management.

RMA is the leader in Aid sector response and support.

Word-of-Mouth Works In Afghanistan

Most Afghans cannot read and over 60 percent receive news and information via radio. So many people get their news second hand, through word of mouth.

Radios are unparalleled information conduits for humanitarian assistance, flood warnings and extreme weather alerts plus vital information on medical and veterinary care. Everyday radios save lives.

Working with the US Military in Kandahar, RMA sourced 15,000 Dynamo and solar powered radios to the region and contributed to a lasting dedication and support for the local population.

RMA Helps Raise Funds for Flood Victims

No sooner than flood waters arrived in Bangkok than people were forced from their homes and places of work. And now, weeks later, many are resigned to living in temporary shelters for more time to come, without proper clothing and the amenities that get most of us through every day.

From the start, RMA Group responded to the crisis by initiating a matching charity fund drive with RMA Group matching every Baht donated by RMA staff and with a healthy direct cash donation from the RMA Group Charity Fund.

The matching fund has generated over Bt. 100,000 in October alone.

These funds are providing essentials to flood victims – dry and canned food, drinking water, eating utensils, torches, medication, and relocation assistance.

Thaweesak Nuyom, RMA Group Logistics Supervisor, was involved from the very early stages of the RMA relief effort: “It was a very good experience for me. Water was everywhere and villagers were really having a hard time living their lives. We had to take boats to reach them. I was very tired but pleased that I got to be a part of the team to help them.  If this happens again,  I’ll definitely be there to help in every way I can.”

Shared Environmental Responsibility

RMA is deeply committed to being socially responsible, including minimizing their effect on the environment. RMA continually challenges itself to reduce or offset its carbon footprint. Switching away from non-renewable resources and making more efficient use of renewable resources is the solution.

Seeking out partners who share RMA's philosophy of being environmentally responsible is a clear objective.

For example, JCB, our heavy-equipment supplier, initiated energy-saving measures in 2009 that enabled it to reduce its CO2 emissions by 7,800 tons. By 2020, JCB expects to reduce its direct greenhouse gas impact by 35%-40%.

Another partner, Ford Motor Company, began using wheat straw-reinforced plastic, rather than 100-percent traditional petroleum products, to create plastic storage bins. This change is estimated to reduce petroleum by approximately 20,000 pounds and CO2 emissions will be reduced by approximately 30,000 pounds per year.

Land Rover has initiated Sustainable Manufacturing that uses fewer resources and creates less waste They are targeting 25% reduction in operating CO2 emissions by 2012: 25% in waste-to-landfill, 10% in water consumption from 2007 levels. And every new vehicle is designed to be 95% recoverable.

Lab equipment for the Afghanistan Ministry of Higher Education

Education is vital to rebuilding a country torn by war or conflict.

Afghanistan Reconstruction & Development Services was given the opportunity to outfit Kabul University classrooms with comprehensive range of laboratory testing equipment to test concrete, soil resistance for civil engineering applications.

Considerable care and knowledge are required to produce quality concrete.

Collaborating with Kabul University teachers and scholars, RMA defined and proposed a complete range of testing equipment to test not only concrete but also Aggregates, Cement and Steel.

RMA Rapid Response Against an Epidemic

RMA is called into action to combat the threat of the Bird Flu epidemic invading Vietnam. 58 special “Outbreak Investigation” vehicles were needed by the Ministry of Health to counter the outbreak in 2009.

RMA's designers and engineers immediately leaped into action and proposed a specially modified and equipped Ford Ranger pickup. Each truck would include protective biohazard equipment for five health workers, disinfectant and chemical storage, portable sprayer and hot and cold insulated rear enclosure. Also in the design were non-slip, anti-static flooring and anti-shock & vibration features to protect gathered samples and occupants.

The vehicle met the Ministry of Health's requirements exactly. Once RMA's specialists received design approval, prototyping and rigorous testing began. Vehicle deliveries began just 12 weeks later and the units were then urgently deployed to the field. Bird Flu was met head on and Vietnam's threat was eliminated.

A Hunger Crisis Strikes: Solution – RMA Logistics

Emergency relief supply logistics can be a nightmare of paperwork, customs, borders and bureaucratic delays. That's why aid and development organizations continuously rely on RMA for assistance.

When the United Nations High Commission for Refugees called RMA to assist in hunger crisis relief for Laotian hill tribes, logistics worked perfectly. Over a three-week, accelerated time period, 5,000 metric tons of rice was moved by land, riverboat and air transportation.

The challenges were many, but each obstacle was overcome and the results were immeasurable.

Crisis and Response in Laos: Logistics That Work

In 2007 a famine relief emergency in remote mountain hill tribe areas of Laos was reported by a UN agency. Fast action was needed to save lives. RMA and its unparalleled logistics network transported 5,000 metric tons of rice – first overland, then by riverboat, and finally airlift to the exact points of human distress and need – in just 20 days.

Our customers know that we will always respond promptly. Technology, contacts, experience, and will power, that’s how RMA makes logistics work.

Hybrid Solar Solutions for Lao Telecom, Laos

As mobile network expansion moves to emerging markets where solar energy levels are more favorable, solar power appears ready to play an important role in reducing the costs of cellular device delivery and ensuring a more reliable power supply. The OEMs’ drive toward reduce base station power consumption, along with improvements in photovoltaic cells, have meant that solar energy is now a very viable solution for powering cellular base stations.

RMA Laos was contacted to improve Lao Telecom base station generators consumption, thus delivering and installing large solar panels, coupled with diesel generators and batteries, to 28 difficult-to-access locations throughout Northern Laos. On these 28 sites, Solar Power is now used in conjunction with other primary energy sources such as diesel or grid based electricity, but will increasingly be seen as a primary source for autonomous cell sites.

RMA also provided a practical solution to Lao Telecom by installing a complex Diesel Generators remote monitoring system, thus enabling the maintenance teams to receive all vital data via SMS messages directly on their mobile phones.

All 28 generators units can send failure-to-start, Low fuel, Low battery etc.. events directly to a maintenance technicians who have been allocated to the particular generator. In parallel, all events can be reported to a central server or computer, which will store the events in a dedicated file. The system is simple and effective system aimed at providing a practical solution for users with any number of generators in the field.”

RMA Group also offers new possibilities to use renewable energy systems or combined systems as a reliable and cost efficient solutions to supply energy to BTS(Base Telecommunication Systems) in remote areas:

  • Utility Grid
  • Diesel Genset
  • Solar Power Supply
  • Hybrid System: Solar/Wind
  • Hybrid System: Solar/Wind/Genset
  • Hybrid Utility Grid/Genset
  • Hybrid Utility Grid/Back Up Batteries
